How did you get into painting?
When I was a teenager there was a television programme on ITV (the channel I wasn't supposed to watch) called “Paint Along With Nancy” presented by an American lady called Nancy Kominsky. She would make these incredible oil paintings whilst narrating the process. I thought it would make a good hobby. Simple as that. I would paint whenever I had a chance. Practise makes perfect, but I don't think I'm quite there yet. I liked Art Attack too.
What drives your work?
My background is in art, media and comedy and I have finally found a project that brings all these skills together. This is not art for connoisseurs, but for those who appreciate a bit of British humour and want it in a tangible format. I price tier all my works so it is afffordable for all. That's a good thing because I've only sold one big framed original so far to a Kickstarter supporter. I like to think that my pieces hang to provoke bawdy conversations at collectors' dinner parties, but it's just as fun knowing all you lovely followers enjoy my work on Instagram and the like.
What materials do you use?
Watercolour is my medium of choice but sometimes I will use gouache, acrylics or pastels in sketchbooks as they are easier to work with. Gary my web guy sometimes digitally enhances the pictures for the website and prints. My new lodger has also let me try a paint package on his iPad and I'm starting to get the hang of it.
How come we've only just heard of you?
Gary, the man that helped me build my website works in a coffee shop in town and I first met him when I went in to see if they would display some of my pieces on the wall. He said they were “a bit twee” which I decided to take as a compliment and that they would need titles for the labels. The first title he suggested was “Tits Around Fat Balls” because that's what it was of I suppose. The next time I went in he was very excited about finding me the perfect domain name. I would have preferred my full name but he convinced me that using just the initial made it easy to remember. He was right and for some reason the website took off.
Is my purchase from your site secure?
Of course. All payments are safely made through Shopify, and if you use PayPal they guarantee a refund if it doesn’t show up or arrives damaged. Your bank or credit card may also have it's own guarentee. Bear in mind I always keep proof of postage and whatnot so don’t try any of that mail fraud business on ME, Sonny Jim. Please reach out to me first with any problems and I’ll fix them.
What's the best way to keep up to date with your activities?
I'm all over social media, so add me to your Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. I also put out an infrequent newsletter to give my VIP followers first dibs on notable releases or events so do consider subscribing here (which also gives a discount code should you wish to grab any Fanny).
Do you have any more questions you would like to see answered? (Remember its rude to ask a Fanny her age). Send them to me via my contact page.
